Episode 13: Lauren Mahon (Blogger, Entrepreneur & Breast Cancer Campaigner.)

September 19, 2017

Lauren Mahon founded Girl Stole London in 2011 as a way to document her fun filled 20s. However, when Lauren was unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2016 at the young age of 31, her website started to play a more crucial role in her life.

Since her diagnosis Lauren has unashamedly documented the ups and downs of the journey she found herself on, including discussing the financial implications of cancer, giving her top ‘this aint a pity party’ tips, and even starting the hashtag #GirlVsCancer for her to share images and thoughts in a positive and constructive way.

Earlier this year Lauren also launched her own range of tit-tees with slogans including 'bangers, knockers, mammaries, fun bags, jubblies and lady lumps' to continue the conversation around breast cancer. Lauren’s writing and openness is infectious and she’s continuing to change the perception of being a young adult dealing with cancer, while keeping it sassy and humorous too.

We discuss living with cancer, why sending a simple emoji can make someone’s day, how documenting her journey has helped her and what’s to come now she’s back to work.

Episode 10: Sophie and Hannah Pycroft (Co-Founders Of Spectrum Collections)

August 15, 2017

Sophie and Hannah Pycroft are the sisters who co-founded the now Instagram-famous cosmetics brush brand Spectrum Collections. With no financial backing or previous knowledge of running a beauty brand, Sophie and Hannah worked tirelessly to establish their now global brand from their garage in Wales – because they had full belief that they would make a success of it.

Skip forward only a couple of years and they’ve just announced the launch of their collaboration with the Mean Girls franchise, Spectrum is now said to be worth around £8million, and their Instagram account boasting over 230,000 followers – all because they identified a gap in the market for fun, luxurious, vegan cosmetics brushes and accessories that were like nothing the industry had seen before.

We discuss self-belief, hard work paying off, learning to say no, generating unique ideas and being taken seriously in business as women who love pink and sparkles.

Episode 8: Emily Clarkson (Hilariously Real Blogger, Podcaster, Author & Daughter of Jeremy!)

July 26, 2017

Emily founded her blog Pretty Normal Me in 2014, in her words, after basically looking at life around her and asking: what the hell?! Despite being an inherently very happy person, she felt surrounded by a world that was against her: a world that forces us into clothes that makes us cry, a world that objectifies women and a world that seems to body shame us at every opportunity. So she did the only thing she knew how to do: she wrote. Those musings became a blog, and later a podcast, and now Emily’s debut book ‘Can I Speak To Someone In Charge’ has just hit book stores nationwide.

Growing up with a famous father and the media spotlight upon her made her online journey harder than most, with Emily experiencing trolls and criticism at every turn. However, she’s turned those negative experiences and teenage anxieties into a positive force and an incessant need to help others.
